California court dismisses claims of health hazard to workers due to exposure to spray foam

December 21, 2022

A recent California judgement said there was no evidence that employees' or residents' exposure to spray foam systems surpassed the level sufficient to substantiate a claim of public exposure or substantial widespread negative affects. The Department of Toxic Substances Control listed spray polyurethane foam systems containing unreacted methylene diphenyl diisocyanates as a priority product under California's Green Chemistry law. The trial court held that the department's decision to identify spray foam systems as a priority product was within its legal power and that it violated the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
