Danish study reveals excessive nickel emission from jewelery and toys

January 9, 2023

The research by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency reveals that the recommended limit value for nickel release is frequently exceeded.

It has discovered that some jewellery and toys are coated to prevent or minimise nickel release to an acceptable level, but this does not always work and has conducted a more thorough investigation of the effectiveness and longevity of such coatings on earrings, piercing jewellery, and toys from shops in Denmark, Europe, and outside of Europe.

Eight of these goods were able to be identified as having nickel release values that were above the regulatory limit. The Chemicals Inspection division of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency has taken care of the illicit goods.
