In a research study conducted by Pesticide Action Network Europe (PAN), it was revealed that Belgium currently has the highest percentage of fruit and vegetables contaminated with toxic pesticides, making groundwater in certain regions unhealthy to drink. It is being suggested that Belgium needs to cut its pesticides use by 58% for the next eight years to return to the stage of normalcy. According to some studies, in the EU's quest to reduce the use of chemical pesticides pesticides by 50% by 2030, it is crucial for Belgium to reduce the pesticides use drastically.
