On 18 October 2022, the European Commission adopted its 2023 Commission work programme (CWP) which largely focuses on setting targets towards achieving sustainable goals by prioritising key legislative proposals. In achieving climate neutrality by 2050, the European Commission says this programme is crucial for EU's long-term goals and interests. Many civil society organisations, however, have come out in criticism of this CWP arguing that it will delay and prolong the implementation of overhaul and radical reform of REACH regulations, which will in turn prove to be risky for human as well as environmental health.
