Freshwater environmental risk assessment of down-the-drain octinoxate emissions in the United States

UV filters present in cosmetics and personal care products can be washed down-the-drain through bathing, cleansing, or the laundering of clothing. The risk assessment study conducted to measure amounts of octinoxate in wastewater treatment plant effluents throughout the U.S. will document levels of the UV filter active sunscreen ingredients and hence is expected to help guide future work.
