Henkel signs agreement with shell on renewable-based ingredients for Persil®, Purex® and all® brands

January 17, 2023

Beginning in 2023, Shell will employ a combined manufacturing process to make surfactants that will incorporate up to 200,000 tonnes of renewable feedstocks in addition to fossil feedstocks.

With the use of the mass balance approach and a separate accounting procedure, Shell was able to assign Henkel as the only user of the entire amount of renewable feedstocks utilised in the process. An independent certification agency will confirm the mass balance procedure and attribution.

Over the course of the five-year agreement, Shell predicts that substituting up to 200,000 tonnes of fossil feedstocks with renewable feedstocks could result in a 120,000-tonne carbondioxide reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
