Japan Classifies 3-Aminopropan-1-ol as Deleterious Substance

January 27, 2023

The Cabinet Order on the Designation of Poisonous and Deleterious Substances was the subject of a proposed change by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW) which  is for 3-Aminopropan-1-ol (CAS number 156-87-6) to be classified as a deleterious substance.

Under the Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Law, 3-aminopropan-1-ol and mixtures containing it over a concentration of 1% would need to be labelled and comply with SDS criteria (PDSCL).

3-Aminopropan-1-ol has been categorised by MHLW as Category 1, Skin Corrosion/Irritation and Serious Eye Damage/Eye Irritation.

The proposed modification to the Pharmaceuticals and Device Safety and Data Protection and Control Act specifically excludes Diantimony Tetraoxide (CAS number 1332-81-6) from Antimony Compounds, which are classified as Deleterious Substances (PDSCL).
