Will Europe ever be animal testing free?

Even after voting overwhelmingly in favor of phasing out the use of animals in research and testing by the members of the European Parliament back in September 2021, it remain suspicious whether Europe will ever reach this goal with contradicting regulatory provisions regarding animal testing are still in force for chemicals (EU REACH) and other products specific regulatory frameworks like EU Cosmetics regulations. Another aspect is keen focus on European Green Deal, whereby the EU is projected to be made carbon neutral by 2050. This massive effort will require chemicals testing, evaluation and assessment at larger scale and hence will lead to animal testing practices even more as per the views of animal care activists.
