ADAO acknowledges EPA’s notice of data availability in federal register

March 17, 2023

The Notice of Data Availability (NODA) disclosure makes clear that nearly all stakeholders support a ban on chrysotile asbestos, but the chlor-alkali industry is continuing to use asbestos, a known human carcinogen, in order to protect their profits.

Due to the threat it presents to public health, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a rule to prohibit the use of chrysotile asbestos in a variety of products. Chrysotile asbestos diaphragms used in the chlor-alkali industry, sheet gaskets used in chemical production, and brake blocks used in the oil industry and automotive industry are all prohibited by the proposed ban on their production, processing, distribution, and commercial use.
