ECHA seeks public comments on proposed additions to the REACH Authorisation List

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is considering recommending the following substances for the REACH Authorisation List:
- Melamine (used to make plastic goods, plates, and other items in food contact applications);
- Bis(2-ethylhexyl) tetrabromophthalate covering any of the individual isomers and/or combinations thereof (TBPH) (used in detergents, adhesives and sealants and polymers);
- S-(tricyclo[5.2.1.0 2,6]deca-3-en-8(or 9)-yl) O-(isopropyl or isobutyl or 2-ethylhexyl) O-(isopropyl or isobutyl or 2-ethylhexyl) phosphorodithioate (used in hydraulic fluids and lubricants and greases);
- Diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide (used in photo-chemicals, inks and toners, fragrances, coating products, adhesives and sealants, polymers and fillers, putties, plasters, modelling clay); and
- Barium diboron tetraoxide (used in paints and coatings).
A new hazard classification is also being added to dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (used in elastomers, lacquers, explosives, printing inks, resin solvents, perfume oil solvents, paper coatings, adhesives, and nail polish) which is already on the Authorisation List. 
Public comments can be submitted by 7 May 2024.
