House of Representatives Introduces Legislation to Repeal Superfund Tax on Chemicals

November 17, 2023

The House of representatives has introduced legislation that repeal the Superfund tax, which doubled in 2021 and targets chemical manufacturers with approximately $15 billion in taxes on 42 essential materials for producing household goods. The bill aims to help American working families afford everyday goods like soap, lightbulbs, and electronics, while also making it harder for domestic manufacturers to compete globally. The bill is supported by the American Chemistry Council, which argues that the misguided taxes threaten US manufacturing competitiveness and the chemical industry's ability to create products important to national priorities. A similar bill was introduced in the Senate earlier this year.
