Hypophosphorous Acid and its Salts and Derivatives are Added to the List of Controlled Substances

The Canadian government has amended Schedule VI of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) to include hypophosphorous acid and its salts and derivatives in the list of controlled substances. Hypophosphorous acid is a weak acid with various applications in industrial, pharmaceutical, and agricultural settings. It is used in electroless plating, bleaching, metal finishing, water treatment, pharmaceutical synthesis, agriculture, and food preservation. The amendment will take effect on the day the order is registered. It is also used in metal finishing to remove oxides and brighten metal surfaces. The amendment comes into effect on the day the order is registered.
