OEHHA Listed Bisphenol S (BPS) as Reproductive Toxicant under Proposition 65 by OEHHA

December 29, 2023

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has added bisphenol S (BPS) to Proposition 65, a list of substances harmful to female reproduction. The Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee (DARTIC) concluded that BPS was proven to cause female reproductive harm through scientifically valid testing. The DARTIC voted 9 to 0 in favour of this decision, confirming that BPS is now included on the list. The hazard identification document "Evidence on the Female Reproductive Toxicity of Bisphenol S" was published, and the public had until November 20, 2023, to provide feedback. The California Code of Regulations (CCR) also lists 2,2,3-trifluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)oxirane (HFPO) as one of the chemicals for which testing is required but has not been sufficiently done.
