Philippines Advocates Ban on Disposable Vapes to Mitigate Health and Environmental Risks

March 6, 2024

On March 6, 2024, the Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines encourages the proposal to ban disposable vapes. Disposable vapes and vapor products pose serious health hazards, including e-cigarette or vapor product-related lung injury (EVALI), nicotine addiction, and respiratory and cardiovascular disorders, among others.
They are not rechargeable, are pre-filled with e-liquid, and are not easily recyclable or biodegradable. The initiative intends to reduce the negative effects on health and the environment by minimizing electronic waste (e-waste) that contains hazardous substances. Furthermore, smoking among youths must be reduced due to its detrimental effects.
