Proposed Revisions to EPA Regulations for DecaBDE and PIP (3:1) to Reduce Exposures

November 24, 2023

The EPA has proposed a rule to amend regulations for decabromodiphenyl ether (decaBDE) and PIP (3:1), two of the five persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic phenol, isopropylated phosphate (3:1) (PIP (3:1)) chemicals. The rule was issued after receiving additional comments following the 2021 PBT final rules. The EPA believes that revisions are necessary to address implementation issues and reduce further exposures. The proposed requirements aim to reduce the potential for exposure to decaBDE and PIP (3:1) to the extent practicable. The EPA is not proposing to revise existing regulations for the other three PBT chemicals.
