Slovenia Urges Tighter Regulations on Tobacco Products to Safeguard Youth Health

March 6, 2024

On March 6, 2024, Slovenia's National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) considers a proposal to change the Act on the Restriction of Tobacco Use and Related Products (ZOUTPI). It attempts to prevent and reduce the use of electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and nicotine pouches by children and adolescents.
The NIJZ advocates for the reinstatement of the ban on electronic cigarette flavorings, especially menthol. According to NIJZ, reducing transitory periods for enacting restrictions on flavored electronic cigarettes and smoking rooms will improve effectiveness in preventing and lowering consumption among children and adolescents, thereby protecting public health.
