On January 11, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is finalizing a significant new use rule (SNUR) for 329 per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). PFAS, used in industry and consumer products since the 1940s, can build up in people, animals, and the environment over time. Those subject to the SNUR must notify the EPA at least 90 days before manufacturing or processing the chemical substance for a significant new use.
This rule is effective from March 11, 2024.
