U.S. EPA issued Final Significant New Use Rules (SNUR) on Certain Chemical Substances

December 18, 2023

On December 18, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) implemented final Significant New Use Rules (SNUR) on certain chemical substances like quaternary ammonium salt of polyisobutene succinic acid, derivatives of 2-Propenoic acid, carboxylic acid, alkanedoic acid, etc., that were previously subject to premanufacture notices (PMNs) and an Order under Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). These rules emphasize manufacturers to notify the EPA at least 90 days before starting a significant new use activity.

This notification initiates EPA's evaluation of the use under the specified conditions of use. The Significant New Use Notice (SNUN) must be submitted before commencing manufacturing or processing for the new use, and the EPA must review the notice, make a determination, and take necessary actions.

This rule is going to be effective from February 16, 2024.
