U.S. EPA to reimpose safety requirements to be followed by major industrial facilities

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is consideringing to reimpose certain safety requirements (withdrawn during the previous administration) that apply to facilities including agricultural supply distributors, chemical manufacturers and distributors, food and beverage manufacturers and oil refineries.  The new rules are aimed at addressing potential security concern arising out of such facilities by limiting information availability to people who live within 6 miles of a facility. It is also being proposed that new requirements for facilities including that they must have a community notification system set up to warn people when chemical releases threaten the community.
