Wisconsin lawmakers float bill to address PFAS contamination

May 16, 2023

Wisconsin lawmakers are considering a bill that would provide grants to assist communities in addressing PFAS contamination, but would also limit the authority of state agencies supervising the cleanup of the chemicals or the implementation of projects to address them.

The bill would establish a municipal PFAS grant program to provide funding for communities and sewer districts to test their public water supplies and wastewater treatment facilities for the presence of these chemicals. Systems that are not owned by communities but are still regulated as public water supplies may be eligible for grants of up to $1,800 to analyze their drinking water. The bill lacked details regarding the grants' funding.
