EPA Proposes Changes to Reporting Requirements for Hazardous Substance

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is proposing changes to the Hazardous Substances (Importers and Manufacturers) Notice 2015 to improve the management of hazardous chemicals. The changes include requiring importers and manufacturers to report on the quantities they have imported or manufactured, as recommended in the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment's 2022 report. Additionally, importers and manufacturers are required to provide their New Zealand Business Number, HSNO approval number, and group standard approval for the chemicals they import or manufacture. The changes will affect all chemical importers and manufacturers. The proposed changes will affect all chemical importers and manufacturers, and submissions close at 5:00pm on Thursday  March 28, 2024.
