Japan seeks comments on Measures for Methoxychlor, Dechlorane Plus, and UV-328 under Chemical Substances Control Law

December 12, 2023

The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants has designated methoxychlor, dechlorane plus, and UV-328 as Class 1 Specified Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law. The government plans to take measures such as banning the production and use of these substances in principle. From fall 2020, the manufacture and import of methoxychlor, dechlorane plus, and UV-328 will be prohibited in principle. The import of products using these substances is also prohibited. The Stockholm Convention aims to protect human health and preserve the environment by targeting persistent organic pollutants. However, this does not apply when using these substances for testing and research, as it may cause environmental contamination and damage to human health or habitat.

Deadline for comments is on January 10,2024.
