Australia’s Rotterdam Convention authority notified of chemicals (PeCB, HCB)

DCCEEW enforces the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade and is the authorised national body for Australia.

The information on the removed chemicals is as follows:
CAS Number: 608-93-5 and Chemical Name: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5- 1,2,3,4,5-pentachloro- (PeCB)
CAS Number: 118-74-1 and Chemical Name: Benzene, Hexachlorobenzene (HCB)

Under section 159(2) of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019, when AICIS bans or severely restricts the introduction or use of a chemical, the AICIS Executive Director must notify Australia’s designated national authority for the Rotterdam Convention.
