Switzerland Plans Tobacco Tax Hike for 2025 Budget

On January 24, 2024, the Federal Council of Switzerland makes preliminary decisions about modifying the budget for 2025. The planned tobacco tax hike is intended to generate around 35 million francs in additional revenue. This measure is within the Federal Council's authority to change individual product categories. The economic commissioners of both councils will have a say in the decision. The tobacco tax hike adds to a total relief of more than 2 billion francs for the federal budget by 2025.
