US Senate Majority Leader's Call for Crackdown on Zyn Nicotine Pouches Spurs Republican Backlash

January 24, 2024

On January 24, 2024, Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer proposed a ban on Zyn nicotine pouches. Zyn is a "pouch" that contains high levels of nicotine. Zyn is available in round containers in both flavored and unflavored versions. Each container contains a number of pouches that are placed between the gum and the top lip to deliver a nicotine hit.  The Federal Trade Commission and the Food and Drug Administration caution against teenagers misusing nicotine packs. Republicans criticized him for seeking for a ban on Zyn nicotine packs.
