Croatia's Proposed Tobacco Regulation Amendments: Strengthening Enforcement for Public Health

On January 18, 2024, the Croatian Parliament proposes legislation to amend the Law on Restricting the Use of Tobacco and Related Products. The plan ensures that flavorings will no longer be utilized in heated tobacco products. The requirements requiring the revocation of specific exemptions for heated tobacco products are necessary due to the increased sale of heated tobacco products. The proposed amendments to Croatia's tobacco regulation laws include several key changes, including the introduction of the term "heated tobacco products," the elimination of exemptions that allow aromas in such products, the regulation of their labeling, the refinement of State Inspectorate powers for better enforcement, and the updating of penalties and fines for violating tobacco laws to be consistent with Croatia's use of the euro as the official currency.
