Enforcement Authorities to Target PFCAs and Related Substances

March 23, 2023

PFCAs and similar substances, such as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), have been recognised as substances of very high concern due to their hazardous characteristics, and the goal is to safeguard customers from exposure to these substances.

The pilot project's inspections will begin in 2023 and take place in all 12 countries by 2024.

The initiative will also educate businesses that offer cosmetics and other consumer goods about the limitations imposed by the REACH and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) regulations. It was brought on by instances of PFOA, whose use is prohibited by the POPs Regulation, being discovered in products bought and sold on the EU market.

Inspectors may impose limitations under the POPs Regulation, or REACH, as appropriate. Inspectors will take disciplinary action when they find violations to make sure the relevant laws are being followed. By the end of 2024, the study summary should be released.
