Italy presents REC - Recycling for Circular Economy, a recycling scheme for IQOS, a heated tobacco product that includes the Lil tobacco heater.
In this first phase of the REC project, IQOS and Lil devices, if classified as waste because they are no longer usable, are delivered by a logistics partner company to a company specializing in the treatment of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), which deals with the separation of raw materials contained in the devices as well as recovery activities.
The project's goal is to recycle IQOS and Lil devices that are no longer useful by 2024, as well as raw materials that are recovered, recycled, and deemed "critical," i.e. in short supply and of strategic economic importance for a wide range of industrial activities. The recycling effort is part of the sustainability plan that promotes a circular economy.
