Switzerland Revised Biocidal Products Regulation

December 15, 2023

The Biocidal Products Regulation (ChemG) has been revised to reduce pesticide use risks. Starting January 1, 2024, it requires authorization holders, manufacturers, and importers to report annually the quantity of biocidal products placed on the market. The first notification of the 2024 dates is required by May 31, 2025. Indicators based on aquatic environment measurements have been established to assess and reduce biocidal product risks. If limit values set out in the Water Protection Ordinance are repeatedly exceeded, approvals of biocidal products may be changed or revoked. Minor adjustments are being made to the Chemicals Ordinance (ChemV) and the Chemicals Fees Ordinance (ChemGebV). The notification obligation must be made by May 31, the following year, and no later than 2025 for data from 2024. The notification should include information such as surname, address, email address, telephone number, trade name and number of the federal approval, active ingredients, concentrations, and product type. The notification must be made electronically and entered into the Chemicals Product Register (RPC).
